Our capstone program is a free, project-based deep-dive into AI on MIT’s campus. Each student will build their own neural network with guidance from MIT mentors in an individualized setting with a 5:1 student-teacher ratio, on MIT campus.

Where

High schoolers in the greater Boston area (including Worchester and Lynn). If you are curious and eager to learn, then apply! No prior experience necessary, but anyone who’s coded before will be placed in a more advanced lab.

  • Jacob Andreas: Asst. Professor @ MIT

    Assistant professor at MIT in EECS and in CSAIL. Before joining MIT, he earned his PhD at Berkeley, where he was a member of the Berkeley NLP group and the Berkeley AI Research Lab. He has been the recipient of a Samsung's AI Researcher of the Year award, MIT's Kolokotrones teaching award, and paper awards at NAACL and ICML.

  • Deqing Sun: Researcher @ Google

    Research scientist at Google working on computer vision and machine learning. Chair of CVPR/ECCV/BMVC. Recipient of PAMI Young Researcher award in 2020, the Longuet-Higgens Prize at CVPR 2020, the best paper honorable mention award at CVPR 2018, and the first prize in the robust optical flow competition at CVPR 2018 and ECCV 2020.

  • Bill Freeman: Professor @ MIT, Research Manager @ Google

    Professor of EECS at MIT and former Associate Department Head of EECS. Shared the 2020 Breakthrough Prize in Physics reconstructing the first image of a black hole. Member of the National Academy of Engineering and Fellow of IEEE, ACM, and AAAI. Received the PAMI Distinguished Researcher Award, the highest award in computer vision.

  • Sam Hopkins: Asst. Professor @ MIT

    Assistant Professor of EECS in CSAIL, Hopkins studies algorithms and computational complexity, especially through the lens of convex programming. He is a Miller Fellow, an NSF Graduate Research Fellow, a Microsoft Research Fellow, and has won the Cornell Computer Science Dissertation Award.

How much does it cost?

It’s completely free! We will provide the tech equipment, a stipend for transportation, snacks in the morning, and a full lunch. Attending shouldn’t come at any cost to you.

Who should apply?

Everyone! Our mission is to diversify the face of computer science. We wish we could teach everyone who applied, but when that’s not possible, we prioritize reaching people who otherwise don’t have access to similar opportunities in computer science.

How much math and computer science do I need to know?

None! Beginners are totally welcome, and we don’t expect any prior computer science or advanced math background. If you’re an experienced coder, however, we’ll keep you challenged by placing you in a more advanced lab.
